Key Work Experience

 

Community Resource Center   

  • Positions: Director of Consulting and Special Projects, Interim Co‐Director, Director of Organizational Development Services
  • Sarah has done pretty much everything at CRC, including directing the consulting program and delivering consulting services; overseeing Rural Philanthropy Days in four of the program’s eight regions (Northeast, Southeast, Western Slope and Mountain); frequentlydeveloping and facilitating workshops on nonprofit best practices; and leading CRC as the interim co-director for external relations, fundraising, and programs for nearly a year.  As co-directors, Kelleen Zubick and Sarah successfully restructured CRC’s staff and programs for greater sustainability and mission impact.  

 

 University of Colorado Health Sciences Center

  • Director, Office of Alumni Relations
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of five alumni associations including working with each association’s board, alumni communications, strategic planning, fundraising, managing each association’s finances, and managing membership programs.

 

Denver Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen For the Cure   

  • Positions: Grantmaking Consultant, Director of Grantmaking and Mission Initiatives, and Grants Manager
  • Sarah’s responsibilities included directing all aspects of the Denver Affiliate’s grantmaking process and year‐round oversight of a $2.5 to $3 million grant portfolio.  This grantmaking program was informally recognized by the National Susan G.  Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as a best practices model and Sarah trained other affiliates on this model for Komen National.  Sarah also oversaw the Affiliate’s education program and helped initiate the Affiliate’s first successful individual donor program. 

 

Seniors’ Resource Center, Inc. 

  • Development Coordinator
  • Sarah’s responsibilities included developing comprehensive grant fundraising plans for SRC’s eight programs and the agency.  During my first year at SRC, these activities resulted in raising $133,000 from eleven new funders.  Sarah also worked on SRC’s individual donor program and event fundraising activities.

 Colorado Common Grant Application and Report Revision

  • Co‐Chair, Colorado Common Grant Report Revision Committee 
  • Drafting Committee Chair and Executive Committee member, Colorado Common Grant Application Revision Process
  • In these roles, Sarah was responsible for leading a committee of approximately 40 nonprofit and foundation representatives to draft a revised Common Grant Application and a revised Colorado Common Grant Report Form for Colorado

 

Denver Young Nonprofit Professionals Network

  • Board member since 2005
  • Vice president (2009) and President (2010)

 

Education at the University of Colorado   

  • Masters of Public Administration – Recipient of the Outstanding Student Award for capstone research project, A Capacity Building Needs Assessment of Colorado’s Nonprofit Community 
  • Bachelor of Arts in History  – Summa Cum Laude and With Distinction

Other Activities

  • Frequent author on the nonprofit sector and philanthropy for CausePlanet, the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network, the Community Resource Center, and other publications. 
  • Sarah’s true love (other than her husband, of course) is nature and landscape photography, through which she can experience the solitude of wilderness and hopefully motivate people to explore and experience nature.  Sarah also finds great pleasure in cooking and tending her tiny, yet amazingly plentiful garden each summer.
